Post-foundational Discourse Theory (PFDT), initially developed by Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe, provides a systematic discursive perspective on political phenomena, the economy included. However, ever since Mouffe rejected economism in their Hegemony Social Strategy: Towards Radical Democratic Politics (HSS), as an object of study has failed to receive attention it deserves within this strand ideology discourse theory. Different approaches could also benefit from explicit engagement with PFDT. I begin outlining Mouffe’s post-foundational economy. will then return discussion HSS argue against its rejection PFDT study. Finally, critically examine Mark Devenney’s attempt reinstate property importance for theory analysis.
